Goodbye, little brother.....again!

| Jan 5, 2016
It has been forever since I have written a post, but blogs seem to be the best outlet for the emotions we find hard to express in person.

Today, my brother and his family depart to go home back overseas as he has done since 1991. I have lost count of the times I have gone to the airport to say goodbye to him and his family in the last 25 years. I long for the day when I don't have to say goodbye, but don't anticipate that happening soon.

Part of being a Third Culture person is saying goodbye to the ones we love.....often. Whether it's a family member or a friend. Currently, one of my closest friends is living overseas for a year, another close friend is living in the US and it has been almost 2 years since we have seen each other, and then there is all my family still living in the USA whom I miss all the time. I am used to not being with them and can't imagine actually living in proximity for an extended period of time, but the goodbyes are still hard.  No matter how many times I have done it!

As I sit here watching my brother and his family get ready to leave, my heart hurts and the tears threaten as I once again say goodbye to the only other person who lived my childhood with me. It's hard to share memories and to care for one another as we probably would like when we live so far apart, so we look forward to these visits and opportunities.

Love you, little brother and I can't wait for us to be together again soon.
